Weeks 3 and 4

Letterland Phonics

Please ask your child if they are in Mrs Millar's Phonics group or Mrs Taylor's.

Mrs Taylor's Phonics

Over the next 2 weeks we are going to be learning about the diagraphs ea, ee and the use of y as an /ee/ sound at the end of words. Encourage your child to log into their Phonics Online account and explore the 'Meet the Letterlanders' section to find out all about these sounds and the stories that are going to make them easier to recall for the children.

To support their reading skills please access the Blue Series Reader 3 stories A trip to the sea, Mr E's Trees and Happy!

The decodable sentences for lesson 46 and 47 will support this learning - listen to your child read them and then encourage them to write the sentences in that space underneath each one.

Understanding of the World

Learning the continent names

Over this term we will be helping the children to learn the names of the continents of the world. Here is a video to help. Encourage your child to watch it and sing along.

Visiting The Great Barrier Reef.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be helping the children to understand what the Great Barrier Reef is and where it is found. We will be learning about how it is threatened by plastic pollution and how we can help. We will be reading the story Somebody Swallowed Stanley and trying to create our own versions of it. Part of this help is going to be them making their own recycled T-shirt shopping bag. They will be set a challenge of taking this bag out for a shopping trip and sharing what they bought via Tapestry.

The Great Barrier Reef Animals

Over the next couple of weeks we will be helping the children to compare the animals found in The Great Barrier Reef to the ones we learned about in our garden bird and woodland enquiries. We will be watching lots of videos to help to develop their knowledge of these animals.

The Endeavour

We will be learning a little bit about Captain Cook and his voyage to discover The Great Barrier Reef. We will meet Sir Joseph Banks again as part of this learning as he accompanied Captain Cook on this voyage. We will try to compare old and new ships and talk about how life was different to ours during these times.

Expressive Arts

We will be learning how to draw and paint jelly fish over the next couple of weeks - and using this to decorate our up-cycled bags.

Music

Over the next term our music lessons are going to be concentrating on learning the songs we need to know for our assembly. This is a version of 'walking through the jungle' by Barefoot Books and can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plvY0quSyJg we will be changing the words quite a bit but the structure is very similar.

PSED

Circle Times

Over the next term we are going to be helping the children to get ready for their move up to Year 1. We will be talking a lot about how they felt when they first started in Reception and what advice they would give to the next Reception class.
