**Guided Reading and English are intertwined this week.
This week we are focusing on poetry and will be writing our very own winter poem.**

Guided Reading
LO. To become familiar with a piece of poem.
This is one of my favourite poems!
Today you need to:
Read the poem.
Then read the poem out loud.
Then think about the questions below:
1) What do you like or dislike about the poem and why?
2) What is the purpose of the poem- why might someone choose this poem?
3) Why would someone choose to read this poem at this time of year?

We are now going to take a closer look at the poem and its features! Using the mindmap below, make notes and annotate around the poem identifying the different features.

Now that we have analysed the features of the poem, we are now going to gather vocabulary to create the foundations of planning our very own winter poem. Using the table below, create a bank of vocabulary that describes winter.

LO. To use personification to add effect
Have a look at the PowerPoint below. You will need to have all of the vocabulary. that you gathered from yesterday. You are now going to give the features you identified of winter human characteristics. This is called personification. You may also use the personification mat to give you some ideas of how to do this effectively.

In this lesson, I would like to think about whose voice is talking in the poem. What are they trying to say? Who are they talking to?

We are now going to put all of our learning together and create your very own version of the poem we have been learning about. Using all of your amazing vocabulary gathering from Tuesday and learning about personification on Wednesday, you will be able to create an amazing version of your own poem.

This time, we are going to focus on retrieving information from the text.

LO. To publish and perform your poem
Check the spellings of the vocabulary that you have used in your version of the poem.
Then publish it in your neatest handwriting, you may want to add a wintery border around the edge of your poem.
