The first two weeks of school will be centred around settling the children and helping them to learn about the rules and expectations of the school. We will learn about the story of The Good Samaritan, which will lead to securing our golden rule - treat others how you would like to be treated yourself. As we start week 2 we will begin our first enquiry - If It's Not A Stick Then What Is It? In which we will explore the book 'Not A Stick' by Antoinette Portis. We will do lots of exploration of sticks and the children will even be supported in creating their own page for our very first book!

We will be spending lots of time getting to know your children over these two weeks - finding out what they enjoy and what they already know. Part of this will be taking part in the Reception Baseline Assessment - you will receive more information about this soon.

Letterland

Starting from week 2 we will complete what is called 'Fast Track Phonics' with the children. This should take 3 weeks and has the aim of re-activating the children's Letterland knowledge from nursery or, if they did not attend our nursery, it will give them a secure grounding in the characters of Letterland ready to start formal phonics teaching later in the term. At home you can support your child to log into their Phonics Online account and explore the A-Z characters and their stories and songs.
