Week beginning 1/2/21

Hello Owl Class,

Well done on another fantastic week. You are all shining bright at home, and I am so proud of you all. Also, a special thank you to your parents and families for all of the help they are giving you at home and for supporting you in your learning. This week is a special week with lots of fantastic learning opportunities. It is mental health awareness week so we have lots of activities planned for this and we also have an exciting competition with prizes up for grabs.

Children’s Mental Health awareness week!

This week in and out of school is children’s mental health awareness week and the theme this year is: Express yourself! The purpose of this week is to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health. Throughout the week, give yourself time in the day to complete the suggested activities below. Take time to make you happy! It doesn’t have to be difficult. Our bodies and minds are connected, so simple things that we do to improve our physical wellbeing can help our mental wellbeing too.

Monday – On Monday 1st February at 9:00am watch the assembly below by clicking on the link. It will feature pupils and well-known faces discussing the theme of Children’s Mental Health Week, as well as ways that children and young people can get involved at home.

Tuesday – Watch Mrs Hodgson’s special assembly in the Resource Centre talking about mental health.

Wednesday – Have a look at our P.S.H.E lesson for today and complete a mindfulness activity of your choosing.

Thursday – Watch the video below and then either write down or talk with an adult about the sorts of small feelings you may have experienced and what you did to make you feel better.

Friday – Watch the video below and then try and then create a piece of art by drawing your feelings. You can use any medium.

Writing competition with prizes. Read the document below.

Below is our suggested timetable for this week. You do not have to stick to this rigorously, but please do Maths and English every day to consolidate your learning. This week I will be looking out for your fantastic writing. I know writing at home may seem a little hard, but it is an essential skill, and we need to make sure we take our time with. If you are struggling with writing and would like some more support, please send me an email. We can get you booked in for a booking appointment, and we can look at doing your writing together. I am still your teacher even though you are at home and I will still help you with whatever you need.

Maths

This week in Maths we are continuing with height and length. We are going to be learning how to measure using a ruler and solve addition and subtraction problems using length and height. There is a video in the video Resource Centre for Monday and Thursday’s lessons. This week’s lesson resources can be found below, please remember that you do not need to print out the worksheets you can answer these in your Maths books.

Tuesday – Arithmetic test 5. Don’t forget to send me a copy of your work to mark and get your team points!

Wednesday – Starter page 42 and 43 of your blue CGP maths targeted study and question book. Complete practical activity explained in Monday’s Video.

English

This week in English we are going back to basic with our writing as I am aware that many of you are finding writing at home hard and I wouldn’t want anyone to be worrying about their writing or for all of the progress we have made to slip because you are worrying too much. This week we will be linking our Science learning on the weather and the seasons into our English lesson. For each day there is a video in the resource centre to help you with your learning. The lesson resources you need for this week are below. On Friday I would like you to use your English lesson time to work on your story for the writing competition.

Phonics

This week in phonics we will be finishing phase 3 sounds and recapping all of phase 3 tricky words. As a warm up for each phonics lesson use your sound mat in your learning packs and read through all of the sounds on the sound mat. Do you know them all? You may want to also pick 5-10 words to read from the back of your sound mat each day. Below are videos and activities for each day.

Monday – ‘ure’ sound as in ‘sure’. Watch the video below and then have a go at reading the real and nonsense words. How many can you read? Can you write the real words in a sentence?

Tuesday – Phase 3 tricky words. Watch the video below and then read through the story underlining the tricky words on page 2. Can you read them all?

Thursday – Live phonics with Miss Hinch (10:40 – 11:00). Miss Hinch will 8 small pieces of paper (a post it notes size), other pieces of paper and a felt tip pen.

Friday – Live phonics with Miss Hinch (10:40 – 11:00). For this lesson you will need pieces of paper and a felt tip pen.

P.S.H.E.

This week in P.S.H.E we are going to be practising mindfulness. Sometimes we can get a little too focused on everything we have to get done and can forget to look after ourselves. We can look after our bodies by watching what we eat and by doing exercise but, we also need to look after our minds. Mindfulness can also be used when you feel sad or when everything is getting a little bit too much. Remember it is ok to not be ok! Head over to the Resource Centre to hear Miss Hinch read ‘Lucy’s day’ to remind us that it is okay to be sad. Once you have watched the video pick an activity from below that you enjoy doing and take some time making you happy. In the other resources section at the bottom of this page you will find some other suggested activities you might want to try. Whatever activity you choose to do, please send me lots of photos of you practising mindfulness.

Suggested activities:

  • Colouring
  • A walk or bike ride
  • Baking
  • Painting
  • Practise breathing exercises
  • Yoga
  • Go outside and listen to your surroundings
