Week beginning 1st March
Hello Year 6 and welcome to week 2 of our learning for this term. I am continuing to be impressed with the quality of work you are completing at home and also how hard you are working. Make sure you keep on getting as much exercise and fresh air as you can as this is very important for your body and mind. Do try to complete as many of the lessons as possible as we will be using this learning when we return to school.
We have our final story time on Wednesday at 11:30am, using the link I sent to parents last week - it is the same link as all previous story time sessions too.
We also have an extra Teams session on Thursday at 11:30am for World Book Day, which you can access by clicking here (or on the session in the timetable below). I can't wait to see you there 😊

Maths
You can find this week’s Maths resources below, where we are continuing to focus on percentages (with some fractions and decimals too). There is a video in the Video Resource Centre of Mr Hawkins talking through each lesson and activity so please make sure that you watch this.
Arithmetic – please find the test below and the answers for you to mark it afterwards. There is a short video in the Video Resource Centre for this lesson.
Big Write
For your Big Write this week (which is on Monday), you will be writing your flashback narrative. Recap your plans from Friday and then write an exciting story of how you were abandoned on an island and left all alone…. Remember to send me photographs of your hard work. There is a video in the Video Resource Centre for this lesson.
English
In English, we are continuing to examine recounts, linked to our class story of ‘Darwin’s Dragons’ by Lindsay Galvin. Watch the video in the Video Resource Centre of Mr Hawkins talking through each lesson and activity.
Reading
Reading for pleasure: read a book, e-book, magazine or comic of your choice.
Reading 1: read the ‘Diary from the Beagle’ text and answer questions 1-4. These are focusing on developing your inference skills (your ‘reading between the lines’). There is a video in the video Resource Centre of Mr Hawkins reading this text for you.
Reading 2: re-read the ‘Diary from the Beagle’ text and answer questions 5-9. Mark your work afterwards using the answers on page 3.
*** On Tuesday 2nd, there is a live World Book Day event with David Walliams. Click on this link and watch it from 10:30am! Enjoy!
Wednesday story time 11:30am will take place as usual for the final time (however, there is an additional session for World Book Day on Thursday – please see below).
World Book Day – Thursday 4th March
For our World Book Day activity, the whole school will be creating character tube crafts based on our favourite books! There are some examples below – have lots of fun, be creative when you are making these and please remember to send me photographs so I can share them on the website.
We will be having an additional TEAMS story time on Thursday this week as it is World Book Day. Please bring your favourite book with you to the session – if you don’t have a copy of it, that is fine as we can just talk about it 😊 To access this, please click here at 11:30am.
SPaG
Your SPaG this week is recapping formal and informal language. Remember to read the instructions at the top of each page. Please complete the following pages:
SPaG 1 – p27 SPaG 2 – p28-29 SPaG 3 – p30 SPaG 4 – p31
SPaG 5 – mark this week’s work using the answers on p104.
Spelling
This week’s spellings are words ending in -ible. Complete one activity each day and remember to complete the assignment on Spelling Shed too please.
Geography
This week’s Geography lesson is focusing on different time zones of the locations Charles Darwin visited on the HMS Beagle. Watch the video on the Video Resource Centre and then complete the time zones activity.
P.S.H.E
Our P.S.H.E lesson this week is exploring how images can be manipulated and edited. You will be learning how to examine images in detail to see if they have been changed in any way and thinking about why this happens in the media.
P.E
Here is the P.E for this week, provided by Elite Sports. Have a go at the activities on a couple of days to ensure you are keeping yourself active.
You could also take part in Joe Wicks’ exercise on YouTube by clicking here: Joe Wicks P.E.
Art
Art this week is deepening your understanding of pencil sketches and exploring different gradients. Have a look at the example Mrs Duncan has completed below - you can do this in your yellow book or on a piece of paper.
Science
Our Science learning this week continues our learning of Evolution and Inheritance. Friday’s lesson is exploring fossils. There is a retrieval task for you first, then watch the video in the Video Resource Centre. After completing task 1, for task 2 you can make your own fossils or sketch some in your Science books. If you decide to make some, please complete this with an adult.
