Wyberton Primary Academy

Summer Term 2

This term our enquiry is titled: How are other parts of the Earth similar or different to Wyberton.

We will be looking at 3 parts of the world - Tanzania, The Great Barrier Reef and The Arctic.

Making A Mud Hut

This week the children have started exploring clay and using it to make a representation of an African mud hut. We have chatted about how our houses are different or similar to mud hut as well as talking about the 3D shapes cylinder and cone.

Edward Tinga Tinga

This week we have started our artwork project based around the creations of the African artist Edward Tinga Tinga. Each child chose their favourite African animal and has been doing lots of sketches and then paintings of the animal in the Tinga Tinga style. We have also been watching Tinga Tales to help to inspire our creations.

Father's Day Cards

The children have dine an amazing job creating their Father's Day cards this term. They investigated colour mixing for the background and then learned how to paint a silhouette for their African animal.

Tinga Cards

The children have been very busy painting their Tinga style animals and we have made a plan to turn them into greetings cards to sell and raise money for WaterAid

Sports Day

A lot of fun was had by the children as they took part in sports day this term. It was lovely to see our families back supporting not only their child but others as well.

Shopping Challenge

Over the past couple of weeks the children have been learning about The Great Barrier Reef and how it is under threat because of pollution. They have learned that sea turtles sometimes mistake a plastic bag for food and then get very poorly or die because they eat them. We decided to do something about this. The children all donated a T-shirt which was turned into a shopping bag. They then decorated their shopping bag with a painting of jellyfish and were set the challenge of going shopping with it. Lots of families took up this challenge and the children loved sharing their shopping adventures - including how much money they spent.

Well done my little eco warrior Hedgehogs!
