Deer
Welcome to Year 6 - the Deer Class
The Class Teacher is Mr Hawkins and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Duncan. We are a wonderful bunch of children who are enthusiastic about their learning - keep on checking back regularly for updates of our superb work.
Our topic for Term 5 & 6 is Natural Disasters: Can anything good come from a disaster? and our learning will focus on hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes and volcanoes. We will be developing our geographical learning by comparing the climate of different locations and why these natural disasters occur in these places. We will also be expanding our awareness of climate change, before becoming architects and designing our own flood defences. These will be inspired by a workshop from the Environmental Agency, who will be sharing all about their work with the Boston Flood Barrier.
In P.E this term, we will be having two Outdoor P.E sessions - one of these will be on Tuesday afternoons, and the other session will be on Thursday afternoons. Please ensure that P.E kits are in school every day in case these days change. For homework this term, Year 6 will be given a homework slip each week outlining which activities to complete - this is to help prepare them for secondary school and become more independent. f any help is needed with homework, please speak to Mr Hawkins or Mrs Duncan.
Year 6 National Curriculum Tests (commonly known as SATs) have been cancelled by the government, so they will not be taking place this year. We will be assessing the children in school and passing relevant information on to their secondary schools. Transition visits with the secondary schools will take place over the term - either virtually or in person.

Year 6 have had a great day today! We had our wonderful Christmas party, a Santa fun run and wore our superb Christmas jumpers!
Business & Enterprise - 18/11/20
Year 6 have been designing logos and business names, voting democratically on our favourite for the Wyberton Christmas catalogue. We also drafted our catalogue pages, applying persuasive writing to get as many orders as possible. These authentic outcomes are great opportunities to develop our understanding of careers and entrepreneurial skills. We even had some comments on Twitter from other schools in our Trust asking for orders, so we are hoping we make lots of profit!
Children in Need - 13/11/20
We dressed up in Pudsey clothes today to help raise money for the important Children in Need charities. We have spent all week exploring activities to support our mental and physical wellbeing, which is the focus of this year's fundraising.
Bikeability - w/c 19th October
Some of the Year 6 class began their Bikeability training, learning how to ride and operate their bicycles safely. All of the children were fantastic and have already passed Level 1 - they are now ready to go onto the roads tomorrow!
Orienteering - 19/10/20
Some of Year 6 (and Year 5) went to Witham Way Country Park to take part in an Orienteering competition today. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and had such a great time applying their map reading skills. Here is the team which came in second place - well done!
Hello Yellow
Year 6 have loved today's #HelloYellow day for @YoungMindsUK - it has been a great day sharing the importance of talking about our mental health and discussing how we can look out for each other.
