Mental health and wellbeing is key to being able to flourish in life, therefore at Wyberton Primary Academy we pride ourselves in being able to offer support to pupils, parents/carers and staff to promote this. 


The most up-to-date evidence suggests that there are 5 steps you can implement into your daily lives to improve your mental health and wellbeing. They are:


Connect: Connect with the people around you, positive relationships are important for your mental wellbeing. Talk with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in your local community. Chat, smile, listen, play, share and help others.


Be physically active:  This is not just great for your physical health; evidence suggests that it can improve your mental wellbeing. Go for a stroll, run or bike ride. Step outside - get some fresh air.  Play a game or make an obstacle course for the family. Do some gardening, grow something and watch it flourish. Put some music on and dance. Exercising will give you that “feel good” feeling.


Take notice: Be curious. Catch sight of the beautiful moments. Notice the unusual, the changing seasons and savour the moment, whether you are walking to work or school, eating lunch or sat in your garden. Be aware of the world around you, of nature and what you are feeling in body and mind. Notice your breath. Try some of the mindfulness links below.


GIVE:  Share an act of kindness - this can create positive feeling and a feeling of purpose and self-worth. Thank someone. Smile. Give out compliments. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Give yourself some time too, have some time out from things, do something that makes you feel good.


Learn new skills: Try something new. You could cook a new dish, create a piece of origami, or get someone else to teach you a skill they have. Learn a new language. Take on a new responsibility.  Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Fix a bike – learn how to repair a puncture. Learn to play a musical instrument. Be mindful though, do not set yourself too many challenges, and maybe focus on one at a time so you can pay real attention to it. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun and will help you connect with others who have the same interests and skills.
