Term 2- How have survival skills changed through time? (Bronze and Iron Ages)

This term we are learning about the Bronze Age and Iron Age and the survival skills that were used in this time period. Please look at the enquiry mat for the key vocabulary we will be using and the key information that you could discuss with your child.

Our term 2 newsletter is also here to give you more detail about what we are learning this term but also key information about parent events, PE days and what the children need through out the term.

Physical Education

This term the children are learning about balances in gymnastics. They had to create balances with different body points as the points of contacts on the floor.

Reading

This term we are reading the picture book 'Leon and the Place Between'. The children were fascinated by the illustrations and we explored inference as we examined the motives behind the characters actions.

Children In Need

Today we celebrated Children in Need by wearing our spots to school and learning about all the good the charity does for less fortunate children. We were also very lucky this week to have a visit from Pudsey.

Athlete's visit

Wyberton had the pleasure of welcoming the basketball athlete, Chris Tawaih to school today. He led an assembly explaining his motivation and passion for sport and how we got his start in his career. The Foxes took part in a fitness circuit led by Chris that involved short bursts of activities and we had a blast completing it.

History

In History, we used our timelines to discover the chronological difference between the different ages as we moved on to learning about Bronze and Iron Age.

RE workshop

Today the Foxes participated in a workshop with a visitor who taught us all about Diwali. We used drama and dance to retell the story of Diwali.

Business

The Foxes used the business wheel to plan their business 'Foxy Treats' and the product of cake pops that we will make and sell at the Christmas Fair. We used different voting systems to decide this together as a class demonstrating democracy.

Business

We worked in small groups to bake and decorate the cake pops so they looked like reindeers. The children measured all the ingredients and showed great team work and unity as they added the decorative touches.

Business at the Christmas Fair

A few Foxes ran our stall at the fair. They helped decorate the stall and sold the products to our customers.

Church Visit

We finished the term with a brilliant Christingle service led by Year 5 at St. Leodegar's Church. The Foxes gave their contribution of singing 'Silent Night' and using sign language alongside it. It was a lovely opportunity to share in the magic of Christmas with our families as we all made and lit Christingles.
