Week commencing 22.03.2021

Good morning Fox Class,

I am so sorry we can’t be together again in class but it is time to be 'stay-at-home superheroes.' I am looking forward to talking to you on Teams or on the phone. We will be continuing with our learning about newspaper reports in English and fractions in Maths.

The remote learning on this page will be set out in the same format as when we were previously doing Remote Learning. There will be clear links to any videos needed for the lessons and look out for any additional videos in response to feedback being given.

If you need to contact me please use the contact me section at the bottom of our class page, send me an email, or book a bookings appointment. I will be available to listen to you read every morning, between 10:30 and 11:00, and every afternoon between 1:00 and 2:00.

Fox Class reading time will take on Wednesday at 11:30- I will resend the link to you.

LO. To find the fraction of a set of objects

In this lesson we are focusing on finding different fractions of different amounts, the video below explains how to do this by dividing the whole number by the denominator (the bottom number in a fraction) and then multiplying your answer by the numerator (the top number in a fraction).

For Big Write this week, we are going to be retelling the story of the book, 'Flood'. There is  a video in the Video Resource Centre, that shows the picture book in detail and Mrs Davies also explains how to plan your writing.

LO. To understand and use the past tense effectively

Please complete pages 26 and 27 in your KS2 English Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling Targeted question book. This lesson is a recap of last week. Remember that the spelling of some verbs when used in the past tense changes and these are known as irregular verbs. For these words, you can’t add the -ed suffix as the spelling of the whole word changes.

In this lesson, you will gain a good understanding of what makes an effective headline and then create your own for our newspaper report about the Boston Floods in 2013.

In this lesson, you will recap the five W’s of a newspaper report and practice writing one before then composing your own introduction about the flooding of Boston in 2013.

In this lesson, you will complete a short quiz. Check in the Video Resource Centre for a video after 10:30am that discusses the answers and you can mark your work with Mrs Davies.

In your learning pack, there is a text called 'tsunami'. Read through the text and answer the questions attached below. The text is also attached in the document below, incase you can't find the text in your learning pack.

 

Some extra challenges that we usually complete in our Whole Class Guided Reading sessions:

  • Time yourself for 1 minute to see how many words you can read (let me know in our weekly catch-ups or send me a message to let me know your score)
  • Identify any vocabulary that you are unsure of and use a dictionary to find the definition. You could create your own sentence using the word to stretch your thinking!

This week we are focussing on the spelling rule:

Adding the suffix –ly.  Words that do not follow the rules.

On Friday, watch the video in the  Video Resource Centre labelled spelling test 26.03.2021 and you will be able to do your spelling test with Mrs Davies.

LO. To describe how wind or water has affected the geography of an area.

In this lesson we are going to research the Boston Flood Barrier and how wind and water has affected the local area. We will be investigators in this lesson as we explore what it is and why it was needed. There will be a video in the Video Resource Centre that will guide you through today’s lesson.

For P.E. this week, please find the document below from Elite Sporting Academy. We are focussing on ball games and there are some very exciting games. Make sure you send me some photos of you completing these games and being active :)
