Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

The ‘Sports Premium’ is allocated from the Government and it is used to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools.  This funding is allocated directly to primary schools across England, providing them with a dedicated resource to purchase in invaluable expertise and support.

 

It is the Wyberton way and belief that the Premium sports funding should help the school develop sustainable links with sports and health clubs/agencies. It is important children will be able to access extracurricular clubs to increase their levels of participation and enjoyment in sports and have opportunities to experience and gain a taster of alternative sports, not necessarily on the school curriculum. We are endeavouring to provide high quality continued professional development training opportunities to further develop our staff and ensure that we raise standards of teaching and learning in P.E through the links with local secondary schools and outside clubs and agencies. We are also looking to use the funding to help raise the pupils and parents awareness of healthy lifestyles.

PE Curriculum

 

Throughout the year the children experience a wide range of activities mainly focussed around Games, Dance, Gymnastics and Athletics, as well as opportunities for Outdoor and Adventurous activities, such as Orienteering and problem solving activities. Swimming begins in Year 3 and every child is expected to be able to swim 25m by the time they leave in Year 6.  All PE lessons are delivered in school which aim to engage, inspire, challenge and support all children and their abilities.

 

The Wider Curriculum

 

PE and sport continues to have a high profile in our school and permeates many aspects of school life. We aim wherever applicable, to incorporate significant global events into our timetable such as the World Cup, The Ashes, Wimbledon and The Olympics.

 

During our residential visits, children are given opportunity to participate in many different activities which may include orienteering and assault courses. Other agencies are used to enhance the variety of activities available and we take full advantage when these opportunities become. Talented children are signposted to local clubs and events to encourage them to develop their skills. School also believes it is important for the children to meet local sporting role models. Visitors have included Olympians and liaising with them at competitions.

 

Extra-Curricular activities

 

The school is keen to provide a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for children throughout the year which are organised by our teaching staff and/or sports coaches. Children enjoy the opportunity to work with different teachers and agencies and have the chance to try many sports such as Basketball, Athletics, Football, Badminton, Hockey, Gymnastics, Dance, Cheerleading, Netball, Table Tennis, Volley Ball and Rounder’s. We try to cater for all our children’s needs and interests. These clubs have been suggested through conversations with children and parents and through parent and pupil surveys; we also monitor participation and check uptake against gender and free school meals. We enter a wide range of competitions including Tag Rugby, Hockey, Gymnastics, Kwik Cricket, Football, Tennis and Athletics. We regularly celebrate the success of our sporting achievements in and outside of school through our website and within the local newspaper.
