Week beginning 11/1/21

Hello Owl Class,

I hope you are all well. We are missing you lots in school. Thank you for sending me your work last week either through Twitter or through the ‘Contact Miss Hinch’ section on our website. This week I will be continuing to reply and give you feedback on your work but you will also have the opportunity make a virtual appointment with me to show me all your amazing work and also join a virtual story time with me via Microsoft Teams. I cannot wait to see you all and catch up with the things that you have been getting up to!

Maths

This week in Maths we are finishing our unit on place value to 20 and moving on to addition and subtraction to 20. Below are the activities for each day. Take a look in the video resource centre for videos to support your learning for Monday and Wednesday. 

 

Tuesday's Maths lesson is Arithmetic  - Please complete the Set 3 test 2 Arithmetic in your learning packs. Please send me a picture of your Arithmetic so I can mark it and reward team points. 

Friday's maths - CGP blue Targeted Study book: Page 22

English

In English this week we are continuing with our story Meerkat mail. We will be discussing Sunny’s feelings, sequencing our story and writing captions using the correct punctuation. Don’t forget to see the Video Resource Centre for my teaching videos for the week.

Phonics

In phonics this week we are looking at the alternative ‘er’ sounds for example ‘er’ (as in her), ‘ur’ (as in nurse) and ‘ir’ (as in girl). 

 

Monday - 'er' sound. Watch Monday's video and complete Monday's activity. 

Tuesday -  'ur' sound. Watch Tuesday's video and complete Tuesday's activity.

Thursday - 'ir; sound. Watch Thursday's video and complete Thursday's activity. 

Friday - Explore some of the games on phonics play and spelling shed. In the additional resources at the bottom of this page there is a phase 3 tricky word bingo you might want to play with your family. 

 

Phonics Play are offering a free membership again whilst children are learning at home. Please take advantage of this as it is a brilliant resource with lots of fun and engaging games to help your child recall and learn their phonics sounds in a fun way.

 

There is also a spelling game on spelling shed set up for the phonics sounds we are learning this week.

Science

This term is science we will be learning about the seasons and the weather. We will be completing our Science lessons with the support of National Oak Academy. Here you will find this week's lesson which includes a video and activity. In the additional resources section at the bottom of this page there are some extra Science activities for this week including a starter activity.

Music

This term in Music we are going to be looking at the pulse. A pulse is a steady beat it music. It can be measured by counting how many beats there are. We will be completing our Music lessons with the support of National Oak Academy. See the link below for your lesson and your activity.

P.S.H.E.

This week we will be looking at how to balance screen time with other activities and why this is important. Take a look at the PowerPoint below which will provide you with the teaching for this lesson and your activity.

P.E.

Below you will find a PE activity for this week. In addition to this, please see Joe Wicks daily workout.

Topic

This week in topic we are going to be locating hot and cold places and learning about where the equator, North and South pole are. Take a look at the video in the resource centre for this week’s activity.

Spellings

This week’s spellings are below, try spending 5 minutes each day practising your spellings. You can also use spelling shed to help you practise your spellings. On Friday log in to spelling shed and complete week 2 spelling test and send me your scores. Good Luck!

Reading

Reading for pleasure - Use this time to read something you enjoy.

Reading cold task - Read the text and answer the questions either on the sheet or in your writing book. 

Guided reading – This week in Guided reading we are going to be reading a non-fiction text about penguins.

Tuesday – Use the video in the resource centre to listen to Miss Hinch read the text.

Wednesday – Play the video in the resource centre again this time joining in reading the text.

Thursday – Read through the text on your own.

Friday – Read through the text again and answer the reading vipers’ questions below.
