Week 5 Phonics

This week we are going to be learning about Golden Girl and the sound 'g'. We will have a mixture of blending and segmenting in our sessions now that the children have learned how to segment using the rubber band trick. If your child was away last week as well and missed this trick a video of it can be found here: https://www.letterland.com/training/videos scroll down and click on the video button next to 'rubber band trick' We will be using decodable sentences for session 11 and the phonic reader titled 'Is It Dan?'.

We will be continuing our learning in the Phase of Light and Dark and covering sessions 6-10 this week. PSED 

This week in our circle times and show and tell times we will be reflecting on what a family is and how the children have a school family and a family at home. We will be learning about the different families that our children have and how they are similar or different to each other but focussing on how whoever is in our family it is precious. To support this celebration of diversity maybe your child could draw a picture of their family and bring it into school when they are well. We will be reading the story 'The Great Big Book of Families'. A link to a YouTube reading of this is found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx5WgSngy90&t=117s maybe you could watch this together and chat about how families can have any structure. Maybe your child could play with their toys and make different families who live in different houses.

This week in our circle times and show and tell times we will be reflecting on how families around the world all live in houses which may be similar to ours or different. We will be reading the book 'Come Over To My House' by Dr Seuss, if you don't have a copy of this a recording of it being read can be found here:  https://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hElwLYeZqw

Maybe you could explore different houses by doing an image search on the internet and then encouraging your child to create an artwork of what their ideal home would look like. If you have some magazines that you don't mind them cutting up you could encourage them to cut things out of them to add to their pictures.
