Autumn Term 2
A Visit From The Fire Brigade
Our local fire brigade kindly gave up some of their valuable time to come and share some very important messages with the children abut bonfire night safety. They also gave the children a guided tour of the equipment they use. The children learned a lot from this experience and many wanted to aspire to be fireman when they grew up.
A Fire Breathing Dragon!
We have been changing the story of The 3 Little Pigs - imagining what would happen if the pigs met a fire breathing dragon instead of a wolf. Our visit from the fire brigade helped to inform our predictions. We tested the house materials in our fire bowl and found that the brick house would survive so the story wouldn't really change too much. We used our colour mixing and paper chaining skills to create our own fire breathing dragon - which we proudly showed to our mummies, daddies and nannies at a mini parent event.
A Visit From The Police
We were very lucky to get a visit from our local PSCO who cam into to talk to the children about staying safe around strangers. He also showed them how the police car works and what other equipment the police use.
Helping the Gingerbread Man
The children worked brilliantly as teams to try to find ways to help the Gingerbread Man to safely cross the river. As well as building bridges, they investigated how he could create a boat that would allow him to float across.
Happy Hedgehogs Flapjack
As part of our business and enterprise curriculum, the children have been working hard on creating our class business and selling our first product - flapjack. We had 140 orders for our flapjack!
The Annual Paper Chain Competition
Every year Reception take part in a paperchain building competition. A friendly and festive activity where groups compete against each other to create the longest paper chain. A lot of fun was had and the children really enjoyed measuring using a trundle wheel at the end.
Festive Crafts
The children have been working hard on their festive crafts ready for the holidays. They each made a handing snowman ornament - which were displayed in the hall and applied their colouring mixing and Kandinsky knowledge. They also painted a snowman Christmas card and family tree calendar (not pictured).
