Term 4 - How does the Earth shake, rattle and roll?

Welcome to Term 4!

This term we are exploring volcanos and earthquakes with our enquiry question being 'How does the Earth shake, rattle and roll?' this will run through our guided reading, English and Geography lessons. We hope at the end of the term to make active volcanos.

Geography - How does the Earth shake, rattle and roll?

We have made a great start to our enquiry this term, understanding why volcanoes erupt and where to locate them, The effect of earthquakes and what causes them. We will continue to explore other natural disasters. The children have shown a real interest and curiosity in this enquiry and look forward to exploring more.

English - Researching a Survival Kit

The children really enjoyed researching what we would need in a survival kit to survive a volcano eruption. Their lists were very long and well-thought-out, this will be used in our instructional writing on 'How to survive a volcano'. Our Geography and English have been working well together in creating a strong knowledge base to develop our understanding of natural disasters.

World Book Day

On Thursday the 7th of March we celebrated World Book Day by coming to school in our PJs, we discussed the importance of reading in our lives and the enjoyment we can have from a book. The children recommended books they have read to each other and books they would like to read. We shared our books with the Year 2 class which the children really enjoyed.

Mother's Day

It was lovely to see the children's creative side shine through while creating their Mothers's Day cards. We looked at complementary colours, which turned out to be very effective. The children put lots of hard work into their cards to say a big thank you to their mums for everything they do.

RE- Christianity - The Easter Story

This term we are learning about Christianity and will preforming the Easter story in assembly as part of this. to support our learning and understanding of the Easter story we went to church and were taught the different steps of the Easter story. The children really enjoyed hearing about the story and relating it to what we have already learnt and the assembly we are preparing for.

Geography - How does the Earth shake, rattle and roll?

As our final lesson, we created and exploded volcanoes. we used two different methods and the children really enjoyed this activity and seeing chemical reactions and eruptions. The children were able to retrieve lots of information learnt this term about how volcanoes are formed.
