Term 1- How did people survive in the Stone Age?

This term we are learning about the Stone Age and the survival skills that were used in this time period. Please look at the enquiry mat for the key vocabulary we will be using and the key information that you could discuss with your child.

Our term 1 newsletter is also here to give you more detail about what we are learning this term but also key information about parent events, PE days and what the children need through out the term.

History

We have started our learning about the Stone Age and one child in the class remembered this is on our timeline. We went to explore and the children were excited to see the Stone Age on the historical timeline and the original cave paintings on the art timeline. We discussed how far in the past this is and its link to being pre-history.

English

In Writing lessons, we used Caveboy as a stimulus to create our own narratives set in the Stone Age. The children used role play to orally rehearse their writing.

P.E.

This term the children have been learning to play the game of basketball. They have developed their throwing and catching skills with accuracy for constant control of the game.

PSHE

This term we have been learning about our feelings. We have been practising to identify them and the facial expressions we show or can see on others. We are able to sort our emotions into different zones based on how we are feeling- focused, low, heightened and out of control.

African Music Workshop

We were delighted to have Mr Walcott join us to share his African music with us. We were fully immersed in the dance routines and it was interesting to listen to the background surrounding the music and the instruments.

Maths

This term we have been learning about the place value of 3-digit numbers and have used a variety of resources to show these numbers.

Parent Event

We had the best time inviting our families in to share the poems we have written in English and our masterpieces that we created in Art using a range of pencils and charcoal. They were both based on the Stone Age that we have been learning about in History.
