Term 2- How are we damaging our world?

Hello and a welcome back to the Deer Class (Year 6) class page, we are very excited to share the children's learning with you throughout this term. Our next Parent Event is our Remembrance Assembly on Friday 8th November 2023 at 10:30am.  Below you will find this term's newsletter with an overview of all of the learning the children will be doing. Children will need to wear their PE kits to school on a Wednesday and Thursday and our Forest School day is Friday.

Below you will find, the enquiry mat for this term's enquiry about how humans are damaging our world. On here you will find lots of useful information that you can also use as discussion points with your children. We will be looking at the positives of what we can do to combat the negative effects that humans have on the world; this is what makes our enquiry special- we want to become superheroes, who help our world!

Remembrance Assembly

The children performed a moving assembly the whole school and the Year 6 parents. It was wonderful to see how hard the children had worked to learn their lines to ensure they commemorated those who sacrificed their lives for us at this poignant time of year.

PE-Basketball

The children are building on their learning from previous years to refine their skills to enable them to apply these in games.

Diwali Workshop

The children took part in a Diwali Workshop, using dance and drama to learn about this special time of year and to deepen their understanding of the importance of this major festival to Hindus.

PSHE-Valuing Differences

In the first PSHE lesson of this term, the children worked in small groups to deepen their understanding of the Protected Characteristics by thinking about how they may feel if they were bullied or discriminated against because of one of the Protected Characteristics.

Illuminate Parade

On November 29th, the children took part in the local Illuminate Parade in the town centre. To be able to do this, the children welcomed some artists from Transported Art, who worked with the children to create their very own lanterns that were based on the Ugly Duckling. It was an amazing sight to see the children's creations being displayed amoungst all of the other fantastic work from different schools.

Energy from Waste Trip

The children were welcomed by Sally from the EfW Centre in Lincoln and learnt all about happens to our rubbish from Lincolnshire. They played games to identify the best ways of recycling and had a fantastic tour of the centre. This supported all of our learning in our enquiry and gave the children valuable knowledge and experiences.

Attendance Trophy

The children were very excited to celebrate winning the Attendance Trophy!
