Term 1- How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve?

Welcome back to yet another exciting year and we welcome the children into Year 4. The Year 4 team hope everyone in our Wyberton family have had a fantastic summer holidays. We are all very happy to be back and we can't wait to get to know and work with the children in Year 4.

We endeavour to add as much of our learning as we can to our page to keep you up to date with our learning. However, if you wish to know more, please do not hesitate to ask anyone in the team and we will happily share our learning journey with you.

This term's Enquiry question is 'How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve?'.

Please see below our Enquiry mat and newsletter for further details.

Art

This last week we have been making our canopic jars. We have tried really hard to smooth out our clay to ensure our joined parts don’t fall off and the overall presentation looks neat. We have applied our modelling techniques learnt last week and used tools to carve out patterns.

History

We started this terms enquiry off by ordering the key periods and events within the ancient Egyptian period and seeing where this fits in with our history timeline.

Science

This terms science is about living things and their habitats. We have started our learning off by recapping animal groups and looking at ways we can identify living things by using a classification key.

Maths

In Maths we have been recapping how to represents numbers and applying this to representing number up to 10,000. We have identified the place value of each digit within a 4-digit number and how we can partition numbers including flexible partitioning.

PE

This term we are enjoying participating in the competitive game of Basketball. We started off by learning to control the ball by dribbling and avoiding objects before applying this into a mini game.

English

In English this term we are studying the Egyptian Cinderella. We will working toward rewriting this narrative and including a range of grammatical features such as expanded noun phrases, dialogue and compound sentence.
This week we explored pictures from the text and made predictions about what we thought was happening in the pictures.

This week in English we have been exploring dialogue. We have used scripts from our story ‘Egyptian Cinderella’ to recognise which parts the characters are saying before learning how to punctuate dialogue correctly and then apply this when composing our own sentences with dialogue.
