Term 4- What impact do natural disasters have on our world?
Welcome to Term 4 in Year 6. This term's enquiry will be focusing on answering the question, 'What impact do natural disasters have on our world?' and we will be exploring different kinds of natural disasters and the effects of each one. Our PE days will continue to be on a Wednesday and Thursday- both of these are due to be outdoors so please ensure the children are dressed appropriately for our British spring time weather! This term's parent event is due to take place at 5pm on Tuesday 11th March, the Year 6 children will proudly be presenting their week away to Ogwen Cottage and we have also invited the Year 5 parents and children to inspire them for signing up next year!
Please see below, this term's newsletter with more information about what we will be doing along with this term's enquiry mat.
Mark and Marked-Anti-bullying Workshop
We welcomed Box Clever Theatre Group into school for an anti-bullying workshop- we were very lucky to watch a powerful performance in the morning that enabled the children to see incidents from a variety of perspectives and to discuss how the characters may have been feeling. In the afternoon, we took part in a workshop that focused on communication skills.
DT
This term we are going to design, make and test our very own pencil cases. To do this, the children have researched the history of pencil cases and the uses. In the photos below, the children are measuring and making a prototype to check the shape and size. They also looked at different kinds of materials and evaluated the pros and cons of each to enable an informed decision on the type of fabric that they are going to use.
DT
After making their prototypes, the children then began the process of tie-dying their material ready for cutting their material to size and then creating their pencil case.
Check back here to see the amazing tie-dye creations.
Finished Pencil Cases
Below you will find some images of our the children's pencil cases. These have been evaluated in the children's individual DT books. What a fantastic authentic outcome!
World Book Day 2025!
What an amazing day we had!
Today was full of fun costumes, imaginative scavengers hunts and book picnics with younger children in the school. Y6 also took part in an online zoom quiz with lots of schools from around the country, entered a competition to design a gift card and drew/painted our favourite book quotes.
English-News Blogs
The children interviewed each other as they put themselves in the perspective of people who had been affected by the LA Wildfires. This was to gain a perspective of direct and indirect quotes in their news blogs. Their interviews were extremely emotive as they genuinely showed empathy to how people who had been affected may have reacted.
PSHE-Rights and Respects
Deer Class built upon their learning from a previous term 's enquiry of sustainability and the children needed to create a map of a supermarket that would be environmentally friendly- thinking about the energy, waste, wildlife and material of the building. The children created a detailed, labelled map of this.

Term 4 Parent Event
This term the children created and wrote their own presentation about their recent experiences on their residential to North Wales. The children delivered this presentation to their own parents in addition o the children and parents of Year 5, to inspire them for signing up for next year's trip.
PE-Badminton
The children have enjoyed their first few lessons of badminton. In these lessons they have learnt how to hold the shuttlecock ready for an effective serve. They have started to learn the different techniques to hit the shuttlecock.

Comic Relief 2025
The children came to school with crazy hair and contributed donations towards an afternoon of Comic Relief Olympics which were designed, set up and run by our wonderful Year 5 pupils. In class we also spent some time making each other laugh by telling each other jokes (as other classes did too) - these are going to be put into a book that will be put in our school library and will be available for everyone to read.

PSHE Mock Elections
The children worked in small groups to create a government party. They then had to write their own manifesto on things they would like to improve in the local area and how they are planning to do this.
In the whole school assembly, the children delivered speeches explaining and promoting their plans. The rest of the school are now going to spend the next week voting for their favourite party and the winning party will have an afternoon tea with the Queen (Miss Paul, our Head Teacher) to replicate meeting the monarch once they have won an election.
