Term 2- Did The Great Fire make London a better or worse place?
Welcome to Autumn term 2 in the Kingfisher class. There are so many exciting things happening this term from the nativity to our incredible Christmas fair. We cannot wait to share it all with you.
Below you will find our class newsletter and our enquiry mat outlining our learning for the term.
Art
In art this term, children have been retrieving their knowledge of tints and shades to help them with creating their hoop decorations. Children have practiced dot art using tints and shades of green to create a Christmas tree design.
PE
In PE this term, we have been learning about volleyball and how to successfully hit the ball to the opposing team. Children have so far learnt about the correct body position needed for volleyball as well as how to position hands to push through the ball.
Maths
So far this term, we have learnt all about addition and subtraction, drawing on our knowledge of place value to help us when we exchange and borrow.
History
This term we have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. We have looked at why the fire spread so quickly and how the people of London put out the fire. One of the ways we looked at was a bucket line. Children acted this out to learn about the lack of resources.
Diwali Workshop
Today the Kingfisher class took part in a workshop learning all about the celebration of Diwali and why it is so important to Hindu people. The class learnt about and retold the story of Rama and Sita and learnt that Diwali is the celebration of Sita's return. They learnt about the oil lamps (divas) and how fire works are set of as part of the celebration.
