Term 6- What are the benefits of trade links and buying locally?

Term 6

Our enquiry this term will investigate and analyse the impact of trade links and locally produced goods.  The learning journey will look at the way trade works globally and how what we may buy locally may not be from local sources.  We will consider the impact upon the environment and also retrieve our knowledge about justice when considering how fair it is upon some communities.

Week 6

This week, you will have seen us outside the classroom door each day.  Our DT project this term ahs been themed on dough based recipes.  The children have worked in small business groups and designed their baked products through thorough research.  They've then had one day each to make these and deliver them to market, to sell at the end of the day.  Our products have been:

-Bread sticks

-Cinnamon rolls

-Naan bread

-Mini pizzas

-Cookies.

The children have loved making them and also taken a lot of time to make the businesses viable.  Great work everyone!

Week 5

This week, or class took part in an amazing Sports Day, organised by Mrs Davies.  It was an amazing experience, with the children showing our school value of "Unity" and "Hope" with everyone taking part and cheering others on.

Week 4

This week, we have been reading the book "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs".  Using this as inspiration, we will be creating a twisted recount of the story.  This recount will take the form of witness statements, linking our learning last term.  Our term will end with us putting on a mock trial, calling the witnesses and allowing us to decide who is telling the truth.

This session, we drafted as groups the beginning of the wolf's version of the story to practise some of the features.

Week 3

This week, we were lucky enough to have the climbing wall and trampolines in school as part of our PE experience.  This amazing set of activities allowed the children to test their abilities safely and push themselves to (literally) new heights.  Some absolutely brilliant climbing from some of the children and it was impressive to see how many on them grew in confidence and the session progressed.

Week 2

Our computing this term is learning to become designers.  Using the laptops, we have been learning how to use the drawing tools to create shapes.  We have then used these, copying and combining them to create vector graphics.  In coming weeks we will use them to create our own vector based artwork.

Week 1

This week, the children have started exploring persuasive letters in English.  We have looked at the main features of a formal letter and how each section has a purpose.  Using a letter jigsaw, we reconstructed a letter and then broke down the features, explaining them in posters.  These are hanging on our washing line to help us remember for next week.
