Term 4 - How and why do things grow?

Week 1

We began our learning around our new enquiry question this week, ‘How and Why Do Things Grow?’. We read the story, ‘The Growing Story’ and learnt about the different stages of human growth from a baby to an elderly person. We looked at some baby photos of each other and tried to work out who was who! We talked about how much we had changed since being a baby and what was different or the same.

Week 2

We continued our learning this week with a focus on the story ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. We sequenced the story in order and wrote captions and sentences for different parts of the story. We explored the life cycle of a butterfly; we built and drew a diagram of the life cycle together. We had a go at painting butterflies using symmetrical patterns and folded paper.

Week 3

This week, we have focused our learning on the story, ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. We read the story together and named all of the different vegetables in the story. We shared what our favourite vegetable is and drew it. We have been learning about where seeds come from and explored this in Discover and Do time. We sequenced instructions on how to plant a seed and planted tomato, carrot and pea seeds in our garden. We can’t wait for them to grow!

Week 4

This week we explored many different life cycles. We revisited the life cycle of a butterfly and a human and learnt some new ones too, including the life cycle of a chicken and a frog.

Week 5

This week we went on a trip to Tattershall Farm Park! We had a fantastic time exploring the park and taking part in activities such as goat walking, feeding the reindeer and watching the flying display.

Week 6

For our final week of term, we wrote about our school trip and what we saw on the farm. We learnt about the author Van Gogh and his famous sunflower painting. We had a go at replicating our own sunflower paintings in the style of Van Gogh.
