Term 5 - Where could I travel to?

Week 1

This week we have begun our learning around our new enquiry question, ‘Where Could I Travel To?’. We have shared photos from home of places we have travelled to and discussed how we travelled there, e.g. by an aeroplane or car. We have looked on a map of the world to find our own country, the United Kingdom, and then located places we have travelled to. The children have been to some amazing places such as Italy, Spain, Paris and even Azerbaijan! We drew pictures of where we travelled to and then wrote sentences.

Week 2

This week we have learnt about land transport and in particular, aeroplanes. We explored how aeroplanes have changed from past to present, looking at different pictures over time. We read the story ‘Emma Jane’s Aeroplane’ and named all of the places she went to across the world. We then packed a suitcase and jumped on our very own aeroplane in the classroom! We had to write a passport first and get our boarding ticket stamped! We talked and then wrote about what we could see out of the window.

Week 3

We have been exploring space this week and have loved it! We started by reading the story, ‘Whatever Next’. We were inspired by Baby Bear’s rocket and decided to make our own! We used the bricks and construction materials outside to build amazing rockets and worked together as a team. We also got creative and made planet paintings using marbles.

Week 4

We continued our learning about space and focused on astronauts. We looked at some pictures of the inside of rockets and how the astronauts travel to space. We completed an astronaut obstacle course to get fit and strong ready to travel to space and we all achieved our astronaut training certificates! We read the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and had lots of fun doing freeze-frames as the characters in the story.

Week 5

For our last week of term, we explored sea travel and read the story, ‘Lost and Found’. We focused a lot on how the boy helped the penguin in the story and applied this to our learning by being kind and helpful to our friends. We welcomed our grown ups into school for our parent event and made some amazing junk-model vehicles.
